Bulgarian history starts with the Thracians. The Thracians were a group of Indo-European tribes that lived throughout the Balkan Peninsula from about 1000 BC .Their neighbours saw Thracians as warlike, ferocious and bloodthirsty. They especially feared the tribes that inhabited the remote mountains.
